Taking a Personalised Counselling Approach

If you are looking for a safe, confidential space to discuss the problems in your life, we are here to help.

How We Work

Our team of experienced professional counsellors specialise in helping with a broad spectrum of issues and provide both short-term and long-term counselling in Hampstead and online to people of all ages, including young children aged five upwards, adolescents, couples, and families.

We believe that every individual is unique and therefore always adopt a person-centered approach – one that is tailored to suit your specific needs. If you are seeking help for the first time, you might be concerned that you won’t find a therapist who truly understands your problem. That is why I offer a free 30-minute consultation to enable me to find the right therapist for you from our wide range of specialists, including experienced CBT practitioners and mindfulness experts.

“I am such a different person since having sessions with Mandi. She provides a relaxing environment in which you can openly share your thoughts and experiences without judgement. I find myself leaving the sessions feeling lighter, like a heavy weight has been lifted. I feel more confident taking on new challenges and have made much progress in my mental health.”

Short-Term Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)

If you need help with a specific issue, you may consider short-term therapy, which can be for a fixed number of sessions – typically between six or 12.

These sessions involve Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), which focuses on changing the way you think about yourself and, in turn, your environment. This is done through your therapist working with you to identify unhealthy thought patterns and replace potentially negative interpretations with more rational, considered thoughts.

CBT emphasises the importance of the present moment and encourages a flexible, client-led approach. We help you find your own resources, learn to recognise and use your own wisdom, and discover personal methods for self-help that lead to a more stable, happier mindset.

Mindfulness

Mindfulness is about helping you live more in the present, as opposed to worrying about the past or the future. During mindfulness sessions, we encourage you to feel more clearly about what is happening in and around you in each moment. Having this increased awareness helps you manage emotional problems in your everyday life. Over time, you develop a more conscious and compassionate approach to difficulties – rather than the conditioned automatic negative response.

It can be an experience that allows you to process challenging emotions and events in a far healthier way than before. You can also incorporate mindfulness into your daily routine, helping you tackle and overcome issues such as depression, stress, anger, and anxiety.

Long-Term Psychotherapy

Along with short-term CBT that addresses specific issues currently affecting your mental wellbeing, we also use a psychodynamic approach. This way of working places strong emphasis on how patterns of behaviour and experiences from the past may show up in current relationships. It also acknowledges the role of the unconscious and how powerfully we can be motivated by certain unconscious drives.

This form of therapy goes deeper than counselling and is better suited to people living with more complex issues, such as depression or anxiety, due to the way it focuses on why certain emotions/behaviours show up in the first place. Your therapist will often incorporate a combination of both CBT and psychotherapy into sessions if required.

Integrative Therapy

Our central approach has always been to treat each person on their own unique terms. No problem is exactly the same, and people respond differently to certain approaches, which is why we never employ a ‘one-size-fits-all’ style of working. Instead, our team will analyse your unique situation and use an integrative approach – a style of therapy that blends different therapeutic approaches in order to provide the most effective, tailored help to each individual.

We will use different approaches as needed, adapting our way of working in accordance with your changing needs over time. This could include person-centered counselling techniques, psychotherapy, mindfulness, CBT, or other modalities that are most effective for your situation. It is an inclusive, collaborative way of working, with our therapists actively engaging with your personal experience of therapy.

Working With Children

Several members of our team are fully qualified to work with children from the age of five and have high levels of experience in providing individualised support to young people. We create an environment where children can feel safe and truly understood, with exercises like art therapy and play therapy being used to encourage positive expression.

Establishing a consistent routine is so important for helping children feel comfortable, and our team of professionals take care to create a rhythm that takes into account that child’s particular preferences and allows them to be themselves in a non-judgemental, friendly space.
